Construction Sport takes on the Rail Sector

Friday night under the lights on St Patricks day Construction Sport FC took on the challengers RTG Group FC for a highly anticipated game of Football at the home of Heybridge Swifts FC in Essex.

In what turned out to be a great competition both teams arrived with similar numbers, carrying similar amounts of timber, with a similar lack of football experience in the past 10 years.

All this aside there was glimpses of many men that once “had it”, men that may have been a little out of condition but still had the natural ability to ping a ball, carry out the odd flick or to take a high ball under control like Zinedine Zidane.

RTG took an early lead slotting 2 goals through the middle of park, shortly after met with a 3rd. However, Construction Sport FC may have been down but they weren’t out, 2 quick goals before half time put them straight back into the mix.

A few tired legs were rotated, and a few injured players put to one side, the second half once again was met with a quick response from RTG to go 5 – 2 up. Construction Sport had many chances in the second half but were denied by the Dave “The Cat” Murrell in between the sticks for RTG.

Construction Sport got one back but it was not quite enough, the final score and well deserved 5 – 3 to RTG Group.

The game was ultimately a great success, both teams brought great attitudes, great behaviour and ultimately a little bit of fight.

Testament to what the game brings to us all as individuals, the opportunity to blow off some steam, have a laugh and compete.

Thankyou to Wayne Tilly and Dave Murrell and everyone at RTG for inviting construction Sport to take part in this fixture, we look forward to the 2nd leg.
